This is worth looking into! It has been found by Consumer Reports that rice absorbs high levels of arsenic as it grows. Mostly this is ok, because it absorbs "organic" (naturally occurring) arsenic which is probably harmless. The trouble is rice being grown on land that was once used for growing cotton, which is just about everywhere in the US - except California.
Consumer Reports studied a lot of different brands of rice from lots of different stores : Trader Joe's and Target get their rice (organic) from India - their's looks like the best!
